South African-based venture, EngNet (which stands for Engineering Network), has been short-listed for the recently launched international competition, the `Dubai Internet City E-Business Challenge`.
EngNet is an online engineering directory/ buyer`s guide/ portal that has been developed by engineers for engineers. EngNet is the most visited engineering website in Southern Africa as it boasts a surge in the growth of the database as it nears 2500 listed companies, as well as the amount of visits as it receives an impressive average of 40,000 page impressions per month.
EngNet has been selected for the short list of 154 out of 1385 entries that have been asked to submit a detailed business plan. From these detailed business plans a further short-list of 20/25 ideas will be prepared. In addition to the commercial viability of the idea, the competition organizers are looking for plans that can be executed out of Dubai Internet City.
The e-business challenge attracted business plan ideas from entrepreneurs from 15 different countries proving the global reach and attraction of the new economy business climate offered by Dubai Internet City. In the first 10 days of the competition entries were received from Australia, Canada, Egypt, France, India, Jordan, Lebanon, Kuwait, Pakistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, United Arab Emirates, USA and UK.
The teams behind the 20/25 plans will be flown to Dubai to attend a Coaching Workshop in October and make presentations to a panel of VCs and angel investors. The VCs and the angel investors will make a further shortlist of up to 10 business plans. These will be presented to an international jury, which will select the three final winners. The winners will be announced at the formal opening of Dubai Internet City on October 28th 2000.
