The business intelligence (BI) market is far from saturated and will continue to grow throughout 2003, according to META Group's new METAspectrum market evaluation for business intelligence tools and platforms.
The evaluation placed SAS in the leadership category, or "leader band" as it is defined in the report. According to META, a leading research and consulting firm, leaders "have broad product lines and are financially strong enough to keep up R&D spending at a high level".
SAS has consistently been acknowledged as a significant long-term leader in the business intelligence marketplace by leading industry analysts. Out of the 19 BI vendors listed in this META evaluation, SAS was among only four to be placed in the leader band. The evaluation categorised the vendors based on a variety of weighted criteria, including vision/strategy, channels/partners, awareness/reputation, geographic coverage, business drivers, industry focus, technology, agility, services, execution and financials, among others. SAS placed notably well within each grouping.
David Folger, a vice-president at META Group specialising in business intelligence, says: "Businesses will continue to invest in BI technology to enhance decision-making. The increased pace and complexity of business will drive sales. Business users will provide the impetus to purchase solutions with IT following the lead of the business buyer."
"As the BI market moves toward greater consolidation, users are going to demand that vendors provide products that can scale from current projects to future needs," said Jim Davis, SAS's senior vice-president and chief marketing officer. "SAS is well-positioned to continue leading the BI space not only because of the enhanced scalability of our offerings, but also because of how easy-to-use, manageable and interoperable they are. These strengths enable us to provide the most comprehensive business intelligence platform across all industries."
