JMR Software`s business intelligence tool links Sasol`s offices worldwide, playing a significant role in facilitating business decisions made by the company. Sasol`s global success can in part be attributed to the competitive advantage provided by the JMR system.
JMR Software`s solution, written on a Citrix platform, resides on a server in Rosebank, Johannesburg and links into its offices in the UK, the US, Germany, Dubai, Singapore, Hong Kong and SA.
"Sasol has marketing offices and production facilities worldwide. JMR Software`s understanding of technology and experience with applications development provided us with an easy to use, robust, effective system which has played an important role in Sasol`s global communications." says Kobus Naud'e, Manager of Corporate Business Intelligence at Sasol.
"We bought into JMR Software`s system proposal right from the beginning as it allowed for successful `knowledge access` by defining and customising access for end-users. Basically, the system helps to organise information, and manage business intelligence. Without the right intelligence, Sasol can`t make the right decisions. This is critical to the success of our business today," says Naud'e.
The system consists of 10 different databases, which are accessed by Sasol`s marketing and business unit planning divisions to derive company strategy.

The Sasol group of companies comprises fuel, chemical and related manufacturing and marketing operations. These core operations are complemented by coalmining operations and oil and gas exploration and production. In South Africa, Sasol converts coal into value added synfuels and chemicals through unique Fischer-Tropsch technologies.
The group also refines crude oil into liquid fuels.
From 2004 onwards, Sasol will use natural gas as a primary feedstock in SA. Committed to an expanding globalisation programme, the group has chemical manufacturing and marketing operations in Africa, Europe, Asia-Pacific and the Americas.
These international operations derive their products from various petrochemical and chemical feedstocks, including natural gas and refinery co-products. Sasol is developing international gas to liquids ventures based on its unique Slurry Phase Distillate process.
As part of its strategy to become a global player, the company has also formed numerous joint ventures to exploit Sasol technology offshore, making a global access system vital. In the last year the company has expanded extensively offshore with acquisitions ranging from gas fields in Mozambique and Cohana, to a joint venture with Chevron to undertake a Gas-to-Liquids project in Nigeria.
