SatelliteSafe, developer of the world's first satellite delivery for anti-virus protection, and groupware security specialist, US-based Sybari Software, have signed a partnership that will ensure high-speed delivery of Anti-virus updates to Sybari's users.
Under the terms of the agreement, SatelliteSafe will instantly beam virus protection updates via satellite directly to Sybari's Antigen anti-virus solution clients, avoiding delays that may occur through the Internet. The deal follows closely on the heels of a similar agreement concluded between SatelliteSafe and NASDAQ-listed Trend Micro in February this year and illustrates growing acceptance of satellite anti-virus protection delivery worldwide.
"With over 50 000 viruses in circulation worldwide, infection has become a daily occurrence and companies are aware of the need for fast virus detection and the implementation of immediate protection," says SatelliteSafe chief technology officer Ian Melamed.
"The emphasis is on the speed of the delivery process, which has moved rapidly from the use of floppy disks to global delivery through the Internet. Satellite can be seen as a natural evolution in the quest to push technology straight to the desktop."
Sybari Software launched in South Africa in January and Sonny Fisher, CEO of Y3K, the South African distributor, says it is making rapid inroads into the local Microsoft Exchange market. "The deal with SatelliteSafe holds major benefits for our corporate users as it will boost the distribution of the anti-virus updates to their groupware servers, protecting them from major virus outbreaks," he confirms.
