Scala, DSP brings business intelligence to the portal world

Johannesburg, 06 May 2003

Scala Business Solutions has announced availability of iScala BI Web Parts, increasing the capability of the iScala Business Intelligence Server product family. The iScala BI Server products enable developing and publishing corporate data in multiple formats and to multiple access points including portal-accessible ERP and business intelligence dashboards.

Built in XML, web parts are ready-made building blocks for presentation of data warehouse information in digital dashboards and corporate portals, including those from Microsoft, Plumtree and CoreChange. The iScala BI Server products allow both existing Scala users and non-Scala users to access and analyse company information, such as standard reports or key performance indicators.

Shamik Sinha, CEO of Scala Africa explains that BI Web Parts are built using iScala core technologies and web parts from Decision Support Panel (DSP), a Microsoft Gold partner for Business Intelligence.

"iScala BI Web Parts delivers the ability to create portal-based real-time 'single views' of ERP and business intelligence data, without users having to alter their core ERP infrastructure," he says. Sinha notes that with iScala BI Server, investments in existing ERP solutions are protected as the product integrates with existing ERP platforms.

iScala BI Web Parts provides companies with a number of significant benefits, says Sinha. "By providing a single-point solution to manage business intelligence data, the portal-based dashboards created using the technology provides users with access to all corporate ERP data, no matter where this resides. This is dependent on the access privileges of the user," he explains.

The technology also enables enhanced collaboration, equipping users with the ability to work together on the same data and at the same time - even if they are viewing this data in different ways and from different locations. "Through the iScala BI Web Parts, data can be clearly and attractively displayed on a dashboard and a user can easily launch any chosen analytical tool from the web part to further analyse information. Both the web part and the extended analysis can then be emailed to other users who may need to work together on the same data," says Sinha.

And, because it is XML-based, iScala BI Web Parts is open software that has been created with industry standards, developing great flexibility for the development environment.

"The advanced features of BI Web Pats, such as the fully-customisable analytical toolkit, give users the ability to drill-down into data in real-time, bringing to the market a powerful solution for a fundamental business requirement," says Sinha.

"The addition of this advanced, collaborative business intelligence functionality to Scala's product range is a significant boost to its quest to provide affordable, collaborative ERP solutions to the market," he concludes.
