Specialist integrated IT business solutions provider Safmarine Computer Services (SCS) has acquired consultancy InfoActive for an undisclosed sum.

Cape-based InfoActive is to be combined with SCS's Business Objects team to create a specialist business unit of 25 business intelligence specialists to be spread across Cape Town, Gauteng, Antwerp and Copenhagen.

InfoActive MD Andre Esterhuyzen and director John Day will head the new SCS business unit, which will sit within the SCS business solutions division.

SCS MD Paul Vaughan says the group sees real growth potential in business intelligence and is committed to the new business unit.

InfoActive is an accredited SAS Institute quality partner specialising in a variety of domains including balanced business scorecards, business activity management, customer relationship management, supply chain management and mining.

"Through this acquisition SCS adds a business partnership with the SAS Institute to our existing relationships with IBM and Business Objects, enabling us to offer our clients specialist business intelligence capabilities,'' says Vaughan.

SCS, an independent IT solutions provider within the Safmarine and AP Moller groups, has been involved in business intelligence consulting and development since 1994.
