SCS (Safmarine Computer Services) today announced that it has been awarded the IBM Lotus Beacon Award in the Best Learning Solution category at the ninth annual Lotusphere Beacon Awards ceremony held in Orlando, Florida at Lotusphere 2003.
IBM Lotus Beacon Awards recognise IBM PartnerWorld business partners who specialise in Lotus software solutions and who have excelled in providing quality products, innovative solutions and superior services to customers.
The award honours the year 2002's most notable learning solution using IBM Lotus LearningSpace for online delivery of education, demonstrating how Lotus technology supports an organisation's value chain, helping to increase effectiveness and yield measurable returns on investment. SCS was nominated for rolling out 3300 Lotus LearningSpace licences to South African Airways (SAA) to assist with the training of flight operations staff for the airline's new A340 Airbus aircraft acquisition.
Competing against three finalists from Spain, the UK and Malaysia, SCS was judged by a team of leading industry journalists and analysts. The category Best Learning Solution was developed to reflect an extremely rapid growth market, especially in today's just-in-time learning. Many of the solutions nominated in e-learning have saved corporations millions of dollars.
"We are very excited about winning such a distinguished award, especially in the e-learning category, which is a relatively new area. There is a global move towards using e-learning as part of a blended approach in delivering successful lifelong learning. As the local supplier of a global market-leading product, we combine best of breed technology with the necessary know how of local conditions to provide award winning e-learning solutions for the local market," said Tertia Albertyn, SCS e-Learning manager.
"Each year our business partners raise the standard of excellence for Lotus software-based solutions and this year is no exception, " said Frances West, Director of Channels, Alliances and Business Development, Lotus Software, IBM Software Group. "Our business partner community continues to add tremendous value to the Lotus portfolio. The superior technology and thought leadership evident in the ground-breaking solutions offered by our winners demonstrates a strong and ongoing commitment to satisfying customer needs and creating the best Lotus collaborative solutions possible, " added West.
