Structured Connectivity Solutions (SCS) was consulted by the Gautrain consortium (made up of various local and international firms) to provide the data centre and related IT infrastructure sub projects for the Head office in Linbro Park.
SCS was given an extremely tight deadline in order to deliver the project and this was achieved without sacrificing quality in any way. The total turnkey project encompassed the following:
1. De-commission and remove all equipment within the existing data centre
2. Demolish the existing data centre
3. Design and construct new data centre with the following sub projects
* Erect two hour fire rated walls and seal to slab
* Install new ceiling within data centre
* Install 2 hour fire rated doors and frames, door furniture, automatic closers etc
* Clean and prepare the data centre floor and seal with epoxy coat
* Install high pressure laminate raised flooring
* Install an Airedale downward blow cooling system for the data centre with redundant compressors.
* Install data & basket infrastructure within raised floor void
* Install power & basket infrastructure within raised floor void
* Supply and install new 100KVA three phase ups system and related SUB DB's, wiring etc to provide a stable power environment within the data centre
* Install Access control for the data centre
* 350 kVA three phase generator in order to provide backup power supply to the data centre UPS and various other building services
* FM200 fire suppression system within the data centre
* Provide secure steel caged vaults within the data centre due to multiple organizations making up the Bombela consortium.
* Install, connect and commission a sophisticated IP based monitoring system covering the data centre and all components within the data centre as well as the 350kVA generator
4. Provide +/- 1000 information outlets for the workstations
5. Provide +/- 500 custom power supply units and fit to all workstations and connect to building power circuits
The entire project was delivered within 8 weeks and the quality and professionalism of the project was noted by all involved with the project.
SCS was also involved with the design, deployment and commissioning of the Mitel IP based telephony solution, catering not only for the entire head office at Linbro Park, but also for the smaller - satellite sites.
SCS has been awarded the maintenance contract for the entire project and will be responsible for monitoring (via the ip-based monitoring solution that was deployed) the data centre and related components on a 24x7x365 basis to ensure uptime.
