SCSI stops gap with Hitachi

Local mass storage specialist, SCSI Technology, has scooped the agency to supply Hitachi`s line of 2.5-inch hard disk products, thereby plugging a hole in its product line.

Jessy Naicker, MD of SCSI Technology, says the move was prompted by increased demand for large capacity high performance drives from the local notebook computer market. "This is being spurred by the trend toward mobile computing in certain sectors of the business community."

In serving this market SCSI supplies many local original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) with drives for portable computers and therefore requires a reputable supplier.

"While the notebook [computer] has become a vital tool in industries where people are expected to travel extensively these devices must be rugged. And as one of the few moving parts in such PCs, the hard disk is a critical element," he adds.

Enter Hitachi with its extensive range of 2.5-inch drives. "We needed a supplier of high quality notebook drives and selected Hitachi as one of the top three globally. And having already shipped several hundred without a experiencing single failure we have no reason for second thoughts," says Naicker.

Rick Dudson, sales manager at Hitachi, says SCSI was appointed for its reputation as a focused distributor of storage products with the expertise required as well as an extensive network of resellers already in place.
