SDD and Tarsus awarded local assembly of HP PCs

Johannesburg, 03 May 1999

In a move that is expected to lower the prices of its computer systems and reduce delivery times, HP South Africa has announced that it will give local distributors, Siltek Distribution Dynamics (SDD) and Tarsus technologies, the right to assemble a wide range of its PCs.

The two distributors will start immediate assembly of more than 200 configurations of the Vectra and Brio PC range.

"This investment is a vote of confidence in the future of SA," says Thierry Boulanger, HP SA PC product marketing manager. "Our goal is to double our market share by broadening beyond our traditional corporate market to include the public sector and rapidly growing small office market."

The average delivery time of HP PCs to SA distributors in the past was anything from three to five weeks. With the implementation of the HP TopValue Program, this will decrease to a maximum of ten days.

SDD and Tarsus will also be able to customise the systems to the specifications of their clients. This customisation will, according to Gilbert Farina, HP SA GM: Commercial Channel Organisation, see the distributors add real value to these products as well as increase their flexibility.
