SDD announces availability of Borland JBuilder 5

Johannesburg, 30 Aug 2001

Developers now have access to improved functionality and performance with SDD's announcement of availability of the newest iteration of Borland's Java development environment, JBuilder 5. According to Werner Obermeyer, product manager for Borland at SDD, JBuilder 5 meets the needs of developers delivering solutions across the board by integrating Web and enterprise development into the same environment.

"JBuilder 5 features visual tools and wizards, making it easy to rapidly develop applications, while the product has more than 300 reusable Java 2, JFC/Swing, dbSwing and InternetBeans components to speed application development," he says. Because the source code is included, developers can also build their own JavaBeans, adds Obermeyer.

JBuilder 5 is open, scalable and standards-based, designed to accelerate time to market by simplifying the development of J2EE-compliant e-business applications, distributed Internet solutions and many other applications.

"The product is ready to rapidly develop and deploy applications to multiple application servers such as BEA's WebLogic and IBM's WebSphere. With EJB and remote debugging JBuilder 5 helps you deliver distributed J2EE applications and build data-driven Web applications servlets and JSP," continues Obermeyer.

Full XML support allows the development of apps for publishing, manipulating and validating XML documents, and the integration of business data between XML and databases.

"Team productivity is improved with JBuilder 5 as it supports team development environments such as Rational ClearCase, CVS and Microsoft Visual SourceSafe," he says. This allows source code management to be extended across corporate networks or the Internet, making it possible for distributed teams to work together.

"Available immediately, JBuilder 5 is available for the Windows, Linux and Solaris platforms," concludes Obermeyer.
