Siltek Distribution Dynamics (SDD) has begun distribution of the long awaited Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 Terminal Server edition. Terminal Server delivers the Windows NT experience to desktops without any of the software being resident on the workstation itself.
With cost of ownership having become such an important feature in IT budgets, the Terminal Server offers a welcome and cost-effective method of rolling out the enormous benefits associated with Windows NT 4.0, without the normal cash outlay at the workstation.
Tim Keys, newly appointed Microsoft product manager at SDD, highlights the importance of this release: "Terminal Server allows for a `super-thin` client with the desktop operating system and Windows-based applications working completely off the server. What this means is that all of the administration and support can be done at the central server. Apart from this meaning an enormous saving in hardware costs, support costs are also reduced as all of the work is done at the server."
Due to the fact that the Citrix Winframe products have only been released in NT version 3.5, there has been much anticipation regarding a similar product based on NT 4.0. "SDD is able to add so much more value to our clients as this sought after release not only adds to an already extensive list of Microsoft products, but also together with Siltek`s other business units, an entire thin-end client solution can be provided to our clients."
"The IBM business unit, for example, has been distributing the Network Station, a thin-client workstation for quite a while now. SDD`s Compaq unit has also been distributing their Deskpro EN Series Small Form Factor models, a similar product, " adds Keys.
