SDD has brought the Xircom PortStation Expansion System to market, enabling mobile workers to connect peripherals such as printers, cameras and zip drives to their machines, and their machines to the or .

The device uses a single USB connector, allowing users to mix and match modules to expand system capabilities.

"By making it easier to connect, supporting a mobile workforce is easier and less costly for small, medium and large businesses," says Tessa Klug, account executive at SDD.

"USB is seeing increasing support in the market and so far we see no direct rival to the PortStation," she says.

Although the PortStation can be used on desktop systems, it is geared toward mobile workers who typically take their portable system to various office locations, connecting with different devices and requiring various communication methods.

Klug says: "Mobile workers can use a different PortStation at every office location configured to meet their specific needs at that site."

The device has a modular design enabling flexibility for the user. Investment protection is a strong feature as the device also supports non-USB connectors through an adapter.
