With the constant hassle of broken pop-out jacks and loose laptop connections, connecting to a company network with a notebook PC card has remained a challenging experience.
To counter this notebook-user headache, Siltek Distribution Dynamics (SDD) has added Xircom's RealPort CardBus Ethernet 10/100 and Modem 56 PC card, a single cable-free PC card solution, to its stable.
Commenting on the product, Ryno Steyn, product manager for Xircom products at SDD, says it combines 10/100Mbps Ethernet, a 56k modem, GSM AMPS cellular, and ISDN connectivity.
The standard PC Card Ethernet adapters were held back by PCMCIA bandwidth restraints. Using RJ-45 Ethernet and RJ-11 telephone cords, the new 32-bit
CardBus technology takes full advantage of the speed of 100Mbs Ethernet networks. The card configures itself to the network's appropriate speed.
The cards auto-negotiation supports both half and full-duplex (Ethernet and Fast Ethernet) and uses the V.90 standard which provides speeds of up to 56kbps. For faster connectivity speeds users can easily connect to ISDN.
Globetrotters will be pleased to know that the card features GlobalACCESS, a software utility which automatically configures the modem to a country's dialing conventions, says Steyn.
With the phone cord still plugged into the modem, users can receive incoming calls on their handset. It also sports cellular technology and supports all major mobile phones available today. Additionally, the card also has shield protection that safeguards the modem from high current digital phone lines.
To save on battery life, the card also ships with BatterySave advancement management features such as sleep-mode and wake-on-ring. For more information on SDD's range of products point a browser at www.sdd.com.
