Siltek Distribution Dynamics (SDD), a member of JSE-listed Siltek Limited, SA's largest Technology Supply Chain Group, has announced three systems that cover a broad spectrum of the market in its seven-strong Toshiba line-up.
The growth in the range of Toshiba products supported by SDD follows the conclusion of a deal between Siltek Limited and Ariel Office Automation earlier this year, in which SDD would become the sole SA distributor of the Toshiba range of notebooks and accessories.
Sean Sheedy, business unit manager of the Toshiba Business Division, says the new models, including the Satellite 2800 series, the Satellite 1710 and 1730,will all be available at the end of November.
"The 2800 series is aimed at the corporate market with its robust architecture and design, its price point and functionality. The 1730 is aimed at the SME market with its active screen, functionality and a more cost-effective price point," says Sheedy.
The Satellite 1710 is aimed at the student market, and falls into the Toshiba schools programme. "The 1710 is a cost-effective model and, as it is directed at students, Toshiba offers price cuts for schools based on certain criteria, such as volumes," says Sheedy.
The new models complement the existing high-end Toshiba Tecra model, a notebook aimed at the corporate professional with uncompromising quality and power demands. Also in the line up is the ultra thin Portege model aimed at the mobile user, and offers suitable power and features at a reasonable price point.
Sheedy adds that, in terms of incentives and special offers, Toshiba does not discriminate against the corporate world, as it also offers what it calls the GPS programme that offers international companies special pricing and product roadmaps for meeting certain criteria.
Unisys supports the Toshiba range internationally, including South Africa, which means that Unisys will honour any valid warranty from around the globe. "There have been cases of Toshiba grey imports from the US and the user not realising that the product is only under warranty in country of origin with the original supplier. This would render the warranty in RSA void. Basically, unless the notebook is supplied by SDD in South Africa, it is considered a grey import," says Sheedy.
