SDD launches IBM/Cisco bundle aimed at workgroups and small business

Johannesburg, 08 Nov 2000

Siltek Distribution Dynamics (SDD), a member of JSE-listed Siltek Limited, SA's largest Technology Supply Chain Group, has unveiled a new offering aimed at promoting a cost-effective enterprise workgroup or small business solution without the complexities requiring a host of support technicians.

The bundle offering, combining IBM's server and Cisco's technologies, will save users between R2 500 and R4 500, depending on the option they take. "We have given customers the option to purchase either a Cisco router or 24 port switch with the IBM 3500 M20 Netfinity server.

These options cater to both the enterprise workgroup and small business environment, with typically 24 or less devices on the or network segment," says Steven Kramer, IBM PSG & Cisco business unit manager at SDD.

The IBM 3500 - M20 Netfinity server makes an ideal solution for file server or small application server and secure messaging needs, with the ability to expand as needs grow through its five open PCI slots and additional hard drive bays. SCSI hard drive controllers support both 7 200 RPM and 10 000 RPM drives.

But the real benefit to be gained from the bundle is the ease-of-use of the solution. Wizard-driven installation and pro-active management through environmental monitoring and software for local and remote management reduce downtime and operating costs, concludes Kramer.
