The Catalyst 6513 is available through SDD, the focused IT company in the Siltek Technology Chain Group. Supporting up to 210Mpps (million packets/sec) of aggregate IP forwarding capacity, the Catalyst 6513 combined with the new Switch Fabric Module 2 delivers the industry's highest packet forwarding performance, superior control plane architecture, and new intelligent services.
The Catalyst 6513 provides the industry's most scalable performance and richest set of intelligent network services to meet the requirements of today's demanding and fast-growing enterprise and service-provider networks.
With up to 576 10/100 ports and 194Gb ports per chassis, the Catalyst 6513 chassis provides densities of 1152 10/100 and 388Gb ports per 7-inch rack while offering unparalleled levels of network resilience. According to Quintus Theron, Cisco Product Manager at SDD, "These high densities, combined with the new Switch Fabric Module 2 (SFM2) option, offer scalable switching bandwidth up to 256Gbps and 210 million pps."
Networking companies predict data equipment that embraces voice features and integrates current voice networks, will be one of the largest market opportunities in the coming years. "Advanced applications such as unified messaging, video streaming, and packet telephony require highly intelligent, converged network infrastructures," states Theron. "The Catalyst 6500 family now completes a comprehensive networking solution from Cisco, and offers the flexibility which this market demands."
The new Switch Fabric Module 2 provides a framework for delivering the 256Gbps high-bandwidth architecture for the Catalyst 6500 series switches, including the new Catalyst 6513 chassis. Theron adds: "The Switch Fabric Module 2 is one of the key enablers for the optional distributed forwarding technology. In combination with distributed forwarding switching line cards, a Switch Fabric Module 2 enabled system can provide up to 24Mpps of local forwarding per individual line card while providing the highest level of network availability."
As power requirements in the system components increase, higher capacity power supplies are required to meet the growing power need. The new 4000W AC power supplies are designed to meet the power requirements of the high port density and converged intelligent network services configurations of the Catalyst 6500 series products.
The new Catalyst 6513 and Switch Fabric Module are supported in the newly released Catalyst Operating System Supervisor Software Release 6.2(2). This release is feature rich with support for 802.1x, VMPS/Dynamic VLAN support for VVIC, BPDU packet filtering, and many other enhancements to meet the needs of both Enterprise and Service Provider markets.
