SDD to distribute Toshiba

In a drive to intensify the penetration of Toshiba notebooks into the local channel, Ariel Toshiba has re-appointed Siltek Distribution Dynamics (SDD) as a distributor. Earlier misunderstandings regarding SDD distributing grey market Toshiba products has been cleared up and Ariel will be using SDD as primary distributor to the channel to complement its direct sales to corporates and increase overall market share growth.

According to Quintus Theron, Toshiba product manager at SDD, the appointment will benefit the dealer channel as "SDD will be able to bundle the notebook with other distributed products and pre-configure the notebooks to dealer orders on behalf of the end user, adding product value."

George Rudman, sales and marketing director at Ariel Toshiba says the decision was made to use "SDD as distributor in order to grow the dealer base for Toshiba and raise consumer brand awareness consequently expanding market share."

He says that Toshiba is a higher end notebook that competes with the likes of IBM and Compaq and plans are underway to make the product even more competitively priced than it is currently.

Rudman also points to the benefits that the vendor can reap from using SDD`s infrastructure to bundle and pre-configure the notebooks to dealer specification.

Asserting that Toshiba is the number one leader in global laptop market share he enthuses that the vendor will use it`s dealer drive via SDD to grow local market share from 7 to 14 percent.

Theron says that support, a vital aspect of notebook marketing will now be guaranteed and carried out by Unisys SA nationwide.
