SDD has announced that the new HP DVD-writer DVD 100i incorporating DVD+RW technology will be available in SA from mid-September.
This is the first commercially available DVD drive based on the DVD+RW standard. DVD+RW technology allows users to repeatedly record and erase DVD's on the same disc, a previously impossible undertaking for the consumer.
Richard Stainforth, HP product manager at SA's largest IT distributor SDD, explains that demand for a DVD+RW drive has mimicked the preceding demand for CD-RW technology, prompting HP to develop the HP DVD-writer DVD100i.
"The HP DVD-writer is optimised for both data and video applications, making it the ideal medium for business communications, data storage or transferring your videos to disc with a large 4.7GB capacity. Basically this drive is a complete DVD solution," states Stainforth.
The DVD 100i offers the consumer four drives in one: DVD-writer and DVD-ROM, as well as a CD-writer and CD-ROM. The rewrite and read speeds for DVD are 2,4x8x (1x DVD = 9x CD) and the write, rewrite and read speeds for CD are 12x10x32x. The DVD+RW technology gives this drive strong compatibility with DVD video players and DVD-ROM drives on the market today, and the same goes for creating CDs. The drive ships with software to incorporate video footage, photos and music onto DVD, drag and drop files, backup reliably, protect and restore individual files as well as play DVD movies on PC.
"The high storage capacity of 4.7GB (seven times the capacity of CD) means that the HP DVD-writer can handle high density graphics as well as digital images, while it also offers the user the capability of offloading their hard drive or using it for archiving and backup purposes," says Stainforth.
"The HP DVD 100i is a total DVD solution offering the DVD enthusiast every possible tool available to this burgeoning multimedia market, all in one box," he concludes.
