SDD Zooms in on modems

Johannesburg, 29 Nov 1999

Siltek Distribution Dynamics (SDD) has announced availability of the Zoom/FaxModem 56K Dualmode external and internal modems.

These models automatically negotiate between ITU V90, K56 flex, V34, or any other ITU or Bell standard connectivity speeds.

Clinton Henning, product manager at SDD, says: "While some modems require a flash upgrade to comply with the latest V.90 standards, the Zoom Dualmode range comes standard with the technology built in. Incorporating the K56flex standard , the Zoom range supports the two most widely used standards in the market today."

Available as external desktop, internal ISA or card, the Zoom Dualmode models provide mail when used with a soundcard and include both Class 1 and Class 2 fax support. V.80 capability is also included for point-to-point video and Internet-based video conferencing . The Digital Signal Processor (DSP) makes use of flash memory to download software upgrades to extend the longevity of the product and, thus, reduce TCO. Power surge and lightning protection are provided in the form of ZoomGuard, and Plug 'n Play installation is further supported.

"Internet service providers are beginning to adopt V.90 and, with the release of this product, we aim to maximise connectivity options for our clients," concludes Henning.

The Zoom models mentioned in this release are Telkom approved.
