Johannesburg, 27 Sept 2000

First-tier Service Provider (ISP) Satellite Networks (SDN) is bringing guaranteed connectivity to several financial institutions through its exclusive business model that guarantees a Committed Rate of Information (CIR). SDN has concluded deals with JSE-listed investment and merchant group Brait Merchant Bank and Corp Capital an investment banking and niche financial services group.

SDN has also signed a deal with Theta Financial Services, that holds 100% of the issued share capital of African Bank which provides simple savings, loan and insurance products through specialised distribution channels and Durban based Trematon Bank.

Antony Stafford, joint MD of SDN, comments on the importance of consistent Internet connectivity to financial institutions, "The Internet acts as the channel across which mission-critical information needs to travel. Issues such as deliverability, reliability and security are crucial to this information flow, more specifically when it involves banking information."

According to him SDN has positioned itself to offer guaranteed International Internet Access (IIA) managing to provide secure trading platforms 45mb/s, 24 hours a day, 7days a week, 365 days a year to financial services groups that require premium provision of Internet services.

"By exploiting economies of scale, inherent in the 45Mb per second direct satellite link to Washington, it is commercially viable for SDN to guarantee this CIR, resulting in faster and more reliable Internet connectivity. This ability delivers a superior platform to address the requirements of e-business embracing enterprises," says Stafford.

"SDN's exclusive business model is backed up by experienced, technically advanced, highly graded engineers that understand the market," mentions Stafford, who adds that the company has recently expanded in national presence and recruitment to better service clients on a nationwide scale. This in turn has also seen the company exceed recurring revenues of over R50 million.

He concludes that SDN's expected growth has placed company as a dominant player in the Internet market space capable of meeting the high demands of financial and banking institutions.

Satellite Data Networks (SDN) is currently the only local first-tier Internet Service Provider (ISP) that has independently designed, implemented and managed a satellite facility for International Internet Connectivity. By exploiting economies of scale, inherent in the 45Mb per second direct satellite link to Washington DC, it is commercially viable for SDN to guarantee a committed rate of data (CIR) to all clients, making it the most cost-effective ISP in SA. Focusing mainly in the corporate market, SDN provides Value Added Network Services and comprehensive networking and e-commerce business solutions, designed exclusively for businesses that have superior Internet requirements.
