Seagate releases Blackarmor SME server
Seagate has added a piece to its Blackarmor NAS server range, writes The Inquirer.
The 400 server is pitched at small businesses and households that want data storage protection, performance and flexibility.
The Blackarmor server has a four-bay storage enclosure, costs $400 and will let home users use whatever disc drive they want with it, so long as it is certified by Seagate.
Netgear upgrades home NAS
The market for the toaster-sized, desktop-seated home storage network device appears to be heating up, says eWeek.
Competing with similar recent releases from Seagate Technology, Cisco Systems, Rebit and several other companies, Netgear has upgraded its ReadyNAS storage line to include the capacity and compatible software to store and stream high-definition video created by TiVo.
The ReadyNAS Ultra networked-attached storage drive can stream HD video to any TiVo box in a house or small office and provide terabytes of storage space, the company said.
Toshiba updates external drive for Mac
Toshiba recently extended the capabilities of its line of portable hard drives by developing a new version available for use on Mac operating systems, reports Drivers HQ.
The Canvio for Mac line was designed to offer a simple and secure backup system for Mac operating system users. Toshiba had originally released its Canvio external hard drives for PC use in March of this year.
The line of updated drives offers options for 500GB, 750GB or one TB of storage space and comes with Mac backup software pre-installed. The company developed the product to address a customer need for a simpler data backup solution on Mac operating systems.
