Enterprise Information Management (EIM) pioneer, Seagate Software, has confirmed the availability of analytical application templates for Seagate Holos 7 allowing users to focus on budgeting, customer profiling and balanced scorecard applications.
Currently in beta and being implemented by several key customers, the analytical application templates allow developers to quickly deliver business critical applications in shorter time-scales with less maintenance overheads.
"Seagate Software`s approach is to combine industry best practices and their own experience implementing such applications within the open framework of Seagate Holos," says Vivek Thomas, regional manager for Middle East and Africa at Seagate Software Information Management Group (IMG).
Templates have been developed for the following key applications:
Budgeting helps solve key issues involved in the preparation of plans, budgets and forecasts, delivering greater administrative control, reducing the number of budget iterations, providing integration with other financial information, and ensuring maximum utilisation of the available data.
Balanced Scorecard is a management tool that converts enterprise visions and strategies into measurable goals, enabling users to easily communicate strategic aims, and provide accurate measurement of key areas of the business. It includes a set of scorecard elements across multiple perspectives, strategic objectives, initiatives, milestones and performance measures, with a range of assessment values that can be assigned to show scorecard performance.
Customer Profiling is a comprehensive customer analysis and relationship management system, which allows business users to quickly and easily analyse vast quantities of customer information. It enables organisations to target the right products to the right audience; helps determine the top customers and assesses their needs and desires; and it analyses promotion performance to improve business performance.
Several Seagate Holos customers are deploying these templates and are experiencing improvements in application development, deployment, customisation and maintainability. A typical benefit, according to one user is the applications ability to tap information directly from the company`s SAP implementation, allowing them to reduce the amount of time spent in collecting data and devote more time to analysys of data for added value. Another plus is Seagate Holos` ability to instantly analyse data through the slice and dice functionality of the Seagate Worksheet.
"As the popularity of pre-built or part-built applications grow, Seagate Software realises there are some application areas that are suited to this approach. The templates we are offering have been developed through extensive field research and our aim is to investigate further applications based on Seagate Software technology," says Thomas. "Along with our analytical applications we have extended the support of third party data sources with Open OLAP, and extended the integration with other Seagate Software technologies."
Seagate Holos 7 extends the support of Open OLAP: the ability to build business applications on data stored in all major relational, major OLAP and ERP databases such as Baan, SAP & Oracle Financials. Open OLAP now supports Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 OLAP Services, Hyperion Essbase, Informix MetaCube ROLAP Option, IBM DB2 OLAP Server, Applix TM1 and OLE DB for OLAP data sources.
