The State IT Agency (SITA) has announced another delay in the awarding of the long-awaited seat management tender, saying it should be announced on or before 15 November.
The winners of the controversial tender were to be announced yesterday after months of delays, but the agency says further "unforeseen circumstances" caused another delay.
SITA CEO Mavuso Msimang was not available for comment today as he is out of the country on agency business. However, Fantas Mobu, managing executive for procurement at the agency, says SITA has finished dealing with the matter internally and an announcement will be made in the next two weeks.
"We will be engaging with the OEMs next week and we will specifically be looking at getting a 'government price' (discount) from them," he says.
Although declining to go into specifics, he says that from a technical point of view, the agency already knows which companies it will target.
"We have finished testing and double-checking all the technical equipment and I can guarantee that the announcement of who it has been awarded to will be made before or by 15 November."
