Secure your notebook, desktop with Axiz locks

Johannesburg, 27 Feb 2006

Leading IT infrastructure distributor, Axiz, has launched a range of notebook and desktop locks that will deter even the most opportunistic thieves. The Axiz Universal Notebook Lock and Axiz Desktop Lock consist of locking mechanisms and cables to secure notebooks and all components of a desktop computer system.

"Axiz has identified an increasing need for fail-proof security mechanisms that will safeguard desktops used in high-risk areas and notebooks for users that travel extensively. As a result, we have introduced the Axiz Universal Notebook Locks and Axiz Desktop Lock," says Stefanie Bosman, peripheral bag and accessories product co-coordinator at Axiz.

The Axiz Universal Notebook Lock can be attached to the standard security slot found on most notebook computers and consists of a 1.8m cable. It has an imported lock mechanism, table clamp for a permanent attachment point and foam spacer to block gaps between the notebook casing and lock. "For additional strength and security, a port adapter, to which the lock is attached, can also be purchased," says Bosman.

Cable lengths vary and can be crimped to the table clamp. The locks may be keyed alike so that one key fits all. It can also secure projectors, desktop computer cases, certain flat-screen monitors and computer accessories that feature a security slot.

"The Axiz Desktop Lock secures all the components of a desktop computer system such as the monitor, CPU, printer, mouse and keyboard," says Bosman.

Aesthetically pleasing, it can be used at the office or at home and features unique rotating swivel plates to enable various computer component configurations.

"Extensive testing has been conducted to ensure the Axiz Desktop Lock is not removed easily, and in the event that it is, substantial damage will be caused to the components of the desktop system."

Each unit is packaged with one swivel plate, washer, lock mechanism, mouse and keyboard cable holder, a 1.5m braided stainless steal cable sheathed in plastic and a CPU attachment.

"The Axiz Desktop Lock provides users with the peace of mind that their equipment is safe. It can also be keyed alike, on request and at no extra charge. This eliminates the safekeeping of a multitude of different keys should larger installations be required," says Bosman. "It also secures labour-saving devices such as fax and copy machines."

The Axiz Desktop Lock`s cable length varies and features shackle-less padlocks. Raw bolts are also used to anchor the computer system, while customisable brackets secure CPU boxes that have clips on the side. Office equipment such as servers, copiers, fax machines, shredding and laminating machines as well as specialised industrial equipment, such as microscopes, can also be secured by the Axiz Desktop Lock.

With the addition of a thicker 8mm cable, the Axiz Heavy Duty Desktop Lock is the same as the standard model and is available on request from Axiz. It is recommended for use in high theft-risk and repeated-theft areas where insurance stipulates security. It is also ideal for the protection of desktop components in educational institutions.

Immediately available from Axiz, the suggested retail price of the Axiz Universal Notebook Lock is R199 and the Axiz Desktop Lock is R299; both prices exclude VAT. For more information, contact Axiz on (011) 237 7000.
