SecureData announces availability of Centennial Discovery Web edition

Universal Web browser access, asset analysis tools and configurable security for tracking IT assets
Johannesburg, 17 Apr 2001

SecureData, sub-Saharan resellers of Centennial, announces the availability of Centennials' Web version of their leading -based inventory software, Centennial Discovery. The new Web Edition provides a Web browser interface detailing hardware and software audit information for networked PCs. Included with the product are analysis tools that provide valuable usage analysis and upgrade cost calculations - helping key decision makers within an organization control costs and better utilize their PC assets.

Centennial Discovery Web Edition includes all of the features of Centennial Discovery - detailed PC audit history, auditing over the Internet, device discovery and physical location detection of network assets. In addition, the Web Edition provides many new features. Read-only Web browser access to the Centennial Discovery asset repository enables selected users within the organization to run reports and analyse asset usage. New asset analysis tools provide reports on hardware and software usage across the organization. An upgrade costing wizard assists in calculating the cost of upgrading software based on current hardware configurations. Security to the repository data can be setup by user or groups.

"There are a number of powerful tools in Centennial, which evaluated even in their individual capacities, each provides considerable value to organisations," says Wayne Biehn, Sales Director to SecureData. "Audit analysis can also offer organisations certain infrastructural benefits. This will cover issues such as discrepancies in the deployed computer base which have not been properly upgraded to latest software releases, and PCs below specification for the operating systems being run on them.

"From a software audit perspective, software audits enable IT divisions to fully understand their software licensing environments. Not only does it assist in discovering unused software licenses within a given infrastructure, which can offer significant cost savings in procurement costs of additional licences, but it also helps to appreciate any illegitimate licenses, or under-licensing scenarios, which potentially place the company at risk of penalty costs over and above the additional license fees, as well as possibly bad press exposure," added Biehn.

"The more knowledge you have about your IT assets, the more control you have over the associated costs, purchases, and support. However, lowering costs isn't the only benefit. The more information your staff have about each system, the more efficiently your IT organization operates; help desk calls are handled faster, and time spent performing software upgrades is reduced."

Centennial Discovery supports auditing DOS and Windows 3.x/95/98/NT/2000 client PCs. Supported Networks are Windows NT 3.51 and higher and Novell NetWare version 3.11 or higher and IntranetWare.
