SecureData, an ERP.com company and the exclusive African distributors of Trend Micro Inc, a leading provider of enterprise anti-virus and content security for the Internet age, today announced shipment of Trend Micro's ScanMail v3.6 for Microsoft Exchange 5.5 Server.
ScanMail v3.6 was developed to provide administrators with an alternative anti-virus solution utilizing the Microsoft Extensible Storage Engine Application Program Interface (ESE API) in its scanning process. The ESE API is used by the Exchange Server to store and retrieve information from the database including the message body, attachments, and mail properties.
With this announcement, Trend Micro now has two versions of ScanMail for Exchange 5.5 Server virus protection available: ScanMail v3.6 that utilizes the ESE API when scanning, and ScanMail v3.51 that utilizes the new Microsoft Anti Virus Application Program Interface (AVAPI), and which began shipping in March of last year.
With these two solutions, Trend Micro customers can choose the API protocol that best meets the needs of their individual messaging requirements. Each works with Microsoft Exchange 5.5 and is designed to safeguard corporate networks from e-mail-borne viruses at the Exchange server, before they have a chance to reach the user's desktop, infect and spread, or shut down the mail server. Both ScanMail v3.51 and v3.6 can be used by organizations until they migrate to Microsoft Exchange 2000.
Using the ESE API, ScanMail v3.6 for Exchange 5.5 accesses and scans all inbound and outbound e-mail messages and attachments in real-time at the Information store level, before they are delivered to the user's in-box. The ESE API protocol supports single-instance scanning for enhanced performance benefits and ensures the scanning of all attachments before delivery, even under heavy server load. ScanMail v3.6 provides complete notification to sender, recipient, and administrator when a virus is found as well as enhanced logging and reporting capabilities.
"Trend Micro is taking this step in response to customer demand. By supporting the ESE API protocol, Trend Micro is demonstrating its continued dedication to securing the Exchange platform," said Wayne Biehn, Sales Director to SecureData. "Regardless of the API protocol implemented, the ESE API or the AVAPI, customers can be assured that their Exchange anti-virus solution will be backed by the world-class service and support they've come to expect from Trend Micro."
