SecureData warns of new VBS_Homepage.A Internet worm

High- worm spreads across the globe

Trend Micro has received reports from customers worldwide who have been affected by a new computer virus, called VBS_Homepage.A. This worm has been classified as high risk.

VBS_Homepage.A is an worm that propagates only via Microsoft Outlook. It sends itself as an e-mail attachment to all addresses listed in the infected user's address book. After this, the worm tries to open certain pornographic Web sites using Internet Explorer. A sample of the e-mail this worm sends out is:

Subject: Homepage
Message Body: Hi! You've got to see this page! It's really cool ;O)
Attachment: HOMEPAGE.HTML.VBS

This worm has been generated using a virus-making tool known as Worm Generator.

This virus is "in-the-wild". HOMEPAGE.HTML.VBS can be detected by Trend Micro pattern file #886 or above. For more information regarding VBS_Homepage.A, please access the Trend Virus Information Centre at http://www.antivirus.com/vinfo.

has been posted to SecureData's Web site from pattern file #886 or above. Existing InterScan eManager customers can create an emergency rule to block the name file homepage.HTML.vbs. Additionally, concerned computer users can use Trend Micro's free online virus scanner Housecall to detect this threat.
