SecurID promises `impenetrable` networks

Johannesburg, 30 Aug 1999

Workgroup has launched SecurityDynamics` SecurID product, which is claimed to render enterprise networks virtually impenetrable. The company recently introduced SecurID in conjunction with ACE/Server technology at a launch held at Leeukop Prison.

SecurityDynamics claims the product renders enterprise networks virtually impenetrable.

SecurID works off a passcode, transmitted and verified by an official agent, who then allows access. It is a device reportedly utilised by over 5 million users worldwide and is based on a time synchronised authentication system.

The system implements a passcode, a combination of a pin number and tokencode, which constantly changes. Once the code has been used, one has to wait for it to change before making use of the card again.

The administrative features of the ACE/Server are accessible via a graphical user interface and include cross-realm authentication, product integration, custom reporting capabilities and token assignment and replacement.

SecurityDynamics believes the first step in securing a business is authentication. According to the company, trends in business include an enhanced outreach and collaboration with key role-players including employees, customers, partners and distributors.

During the launch, product manager Michael Watts touched upon what potential losses can occur when a company`s is breached. He mentioned the loss of sensitive , user accountability and competitive advantage and reputation, the last of these being described as the most serious.
