Firefox and Thunderbird users on the Windows, Mac and Linux platforms have received security updates with at least one which fixes a critical security flaw. Mozilla recommends users upgrade to it, reports ITWire.
The security updates will fix some of the "known vulnerabilities" that Mozilla lists on its Web site. It also makes Firefox more compatible with Windows Vista.
Mike Schroepfer, VP of engineering at Mozilla, says: "This update resolves the location.hostname vulnerability and other security and stability issues. Thanks to the work of our contributors, we have been able to address these issues quickly to minimise the security risk to Firefox users."
HP simplifies recovery for SMEs
HP has introduced a disk-based backup and recovery system that, it claims, makes data protection and disaster recovery simple and reliable.
It has been designed for the business continuity and IT needs of small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The new HP StorageWorks D2D Backup System also automates and centralises backups to provide data protection for up to four servers, reports Playfuls.
The HP D2D Backup System integrates into existing network-based IT environments and can be configured and managed in three steps.
Dell to sell Linux PCs
After receiving 1 800 new product and service ideas from its users and customers, Dell will soon debut and sell a new line of certified, user-ready Linux-loaded desktop and laptop computers, reports PC World.
Just a week after debuting the IdeaStorm site, the company said the Linux-loaded desktops and laptops would be the first user-generated suggestions it will follow after requests from its customers.
"It's exciting to see the IdeaStorm community's interest in open source solutions like Linux and OpenOffice," the company says. "Your feedback has been all about flexibility and we have seen a consistent request to provide platforms that allow people to install their operating system of choice."
MySims first details revealed
Electronic Arts has revealed some details regarding MySims, the first game in the series designed for the Wii and Nintendo DS.
MySims is an entirely new experience that transforms the traditional Sims gameplay to take advantage of the capabilities of the Wii and DS while still delivering the creativity, customisation, and open-endedness that has been the main draw of the series.
Players can customise their own Sim to reflect their personal style and attitudes. The game contains a collection of unlockable clothing, hairstyles and accessories.
