As part of the Cell C Take a Girl Child to Work day initiative, Sentech hosted girl children between grades 10-12 on Thursday, 29 May 2008, all in the name of exposing and encouraging them to pursue careers in the ICT industry.
"By investing in this day, we aspire to inspire our nation's girl children to make informed choices about their future careers. The main objective of the day is to expose female learners to the numerous career opportunities within the ICT industry and what the industry is about," says Sentech's CEO, Dr Sebiletso Mokone-Matabane.
This year's theme of the day was "Choice Empowers", which is aimed at making opportunities and resources available, and to actively promote and provide young women with access to key resources, the right information and knowledge.
"By taking part in this initiative, Sentech endeavours to help the girl children make the right choices and carve a niche for themselves," says Laetitia Vollmer, Sentech CSI Coordinator.
Sentech's CEO and COO, Bev Ngwenya, addressed the group at a short ceremony wherein one of the girl children was programme directing. A student from the Tshwane University of Technology, Tsakani Sambo, gave a motivational talk focusing on the theme for the day.
The group then embarked on a journey of discovery at Sentech's Shortwave Facility sites situated in Meyerton.
