Sentech has named ex-Telkom man Setumo Mohapi as its new CEO.

The state signal distributor says Mohapi will take the helm as CEO from 1 November. His appointment was ratified by Cabinet on 27 October following submission by communications minister Siphiwe Nyanda to endorse the recommendation made by the Sentech board of directors.

“A veteran in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector, Dr Mohapi has worked at various companies in the sector including his preceding position as the chief operating officer of IWAYAFRICA, a subsidiary of the Telkom Group in Mauritius,” says Sentech.

It adds that he was also the CTO of ICT-Works and the senior manager of International Wholesale Products at Neotel.

Mohapi has a masters degree in electrical engineering and computer science and a PhD in electrical engineering.

“The Sentech board has confidence in Dr Mohapi's ability to provide outstanding leadership.”

The signal distributor adds that he will be responsible for working with the board and management team in delivering the company's and mandate.

Nyanda previously said 30 applications were received for the post, of which eight were identified and four short-listed.

Sentech has been through several top-level ructions after a new board was appointed in April. COO Beverly Ngwenya replaced former CEO Sebiletso Mokone-Matabane, but subsequently resigned in the face of disciplinary action, while CFO, Mohammed Cassim, is currently on suspension pending a disciplinary process.
