Senwes implements EOS

Agricultural co-op, Senwes, has confirmed its purchase of the Enterprise Output Solution (EOS) supplied by AST Document Systems to distribute its reports electronically thereby cutting back on paperwork and the corresponding costs.

Schalk Burger, IS Manager, explains the reasons behind the purchase. "We have an annual paper bill of around R300 000 and if we can save 10% of that it would be a significant achievement. Aside from this the company would also be saving money and time by using online viewing capabilities and being selective regarding reports printed."

As EOS allows for the most obscure request to be tracked the company is also reporting improved service levels. The product is currently in use on 1500 dumb terminals connected to an IBM mainframe. Senwes currently has around 300 PCs, both desktop and notebook, and the intention is to have these machines using EOS by October this year.

"From a user perspective EOS is easy to use," admits Burger. "Set up and loading is also simple. However, before we load it on the desktop we need to make sure it is what the users want. There is no point creating problems for everyone."

Senwes piloted the first installation in March 97 and may look at putting statements on the Web for client access in the near future.
