Server Tools, the specialist Windows NT software distributor, has secured the exclusive South African distributorship for LANovation, the Milwaukee-based author of the PictureTaker package."PictureTaker complements our other NT-based offerings," says Server Tools MD Dave Terespolsky. "Our chief focus is on software that supports the Windows NT environment. PictureTaker does this by reducing the maintenance burden on Windows 95 and NT PCs."PictureTaker, which was released to market in July last year, lets network administrators back up, fix, remove, reinstall or distribute Windows environments and applications."The complexity of individual Windows setups has created a maintenance headache for systems administrators," says Terespolsky. "PictureTaker, which is available in standalone or Enterprise Edition, relieves that headache."Included in PictureTaker is LANovation`s Portable Windows file, which lets users store, compare, edit and distribute Windows 95, NT and application configuration information. Portable Windows file technology is available for third-party licensing.Features of PictureTaker:* Captures the software and settings on Windows 95 and NT PCs in "picture files".* Finds all additions, changes and deletions to the registry, INI files, shortcuts, directories, files and drivers and stores them in "change files".* Picture and change files can be edited and distributed.* Creates a library of applications, updates, software fixes and users` environments that can be applied to PCs to install or repair software.* Rolls out software to heterogeneous PCs with "smart" variables.* Distributes software with or without user input.* Automatically rolls back failed distributions; undo unwanted distributions.* Uses minimum bandwidth since files are compressed and only necessary files are sent across the network.
