PowerQuest Corp is taking network administrators where server management software has never gone before - inside NetWare server volume segments - with the latest release of its server upgrade tool, ServerMagic 3.0 beta.
This latest version of ServerMagic will allow network administrators dynamically to move, copy and fully resize NetWare and NT Server partitions, as well as resize and manipulate NetWare volume segments. Administrators can also deploy NetWare servers in minutes with Server Image, available in the current version, ServerMagic 2.01.
With the growing need for increased server storage space, ServerMagic 3.0 will allow complete flexibility in managing server partitions and NetWare volumes without destroying data and without having to perform a backup and restore.
ServerMagic 2.01 currently supports NT Server 4.0 and NetWare 3.12, 3.2, 4.x and 5.0. As administrators upgrade to NetWare 5.0 from older versions, ServerMagic will also solve the problems of undersized DOS partitions by allowing a full resize of the DOS and NetWare partitions on the fly.
"Customers are demanding faster and easier deployment tools for their NetWare 5 upgrades because of Y2K time considerations," says Dave Terespolsky, MD of local PowerQuest distributor Server Tools. "PowerQuest has responded to this with ServerMagic 3.0, which allows customers to deploy and manage every aspect of their NetWare servers in less time than they are accustomed to."
ServerMagic 3.0 beta automatically copies or moves the exact contents of an NT or NetWare server hard drive to a new one without having to back-up or restore a single trustee right, directory setting or byte of data. ServerMagic is ideal for upgrading NetWare and NT Servers by maximising data security and minimising downtime. And with Server Image, hundreds of NetWare servers can be deployed quickly using a single compressible image.
"ServerMagic broke new ground when it was introduced because it was the only tool with the ability to move, copy and resize a server`s partitions on the fly. Now, ServerMagic 3.0 beta goes two steps further, providing the only intelligent sector-based deployment tool optimised for NetWare servers and the only on-the-fly volume segment manipulation for NetWare servers," adds Terespolsky. "Using ServerMagic 3.0 beta is like unlocking the DNA of your network. You decide exactly how you want it to look at any time. If you want to change the structure of your network storage, you can do it without completely recreating your system."
ServerMagic 3.0 will allow administrators to merge NetWare volume segments into one easily managed volume. When a NetWare volume runs out of space, ServerMagic 3.0 can dynamically reallocate volume space without adding complications to server management and without having to complete a tedious backup and restore process.
As the need has arisen for more server storage space, data volumes and partitions have become spanned and segmented over multiple devices. NetWare administrators can use ServerMagic 3.0 to dynamically organise and bring those data segments back together.
