Sharepoint brings success

It's getting tough to find a Microsoft who isn't either reaping the financial benefits of deploying Office Sharepoint Server 2007 or eagerly planning to add it to their portfolio, reports Channel Web.

Released last November, Microsoft Office Sharepoint Server 2007, also known as MOSS, is a workflow and collaboration engine that integrates with the Office platform and features Web content management, enterprise content services, enterprise search, and business process and business intelligence tools.

Although it initially attracted interest primarily from medium and large enterprises, Sharepoint is now penetrating the SME space, says Stephen Moss, COO of NSPI, a solution provider in Roswell, Georgia that hosts Sharepoint sites for other companies.

GMP Web ready

GMP Services, a privately-owned software development company based in Statesboro, Georgia, has announced that GMP CMS 2.0 is Web 2.0 ready, according to TMC Net.

The GMP Content Management System 2.0 has several Web 2.0 features such as blogging [including video blogging], RSS feeds, social bookmark tools and share via e-mail.

The system is a browser-based content management system that supports Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox and any browser based on the gecko rendering engine. The CMS 2.0 built-in HTML editor allows administrators and collaborators to upload, insert and manage text, images, video, music, flash, documents and downloads from nearly any browser.

EMC acquires X-Hive

EMC provides a glimpse into the future of structured data storage with its acquisition of X-Hive Corporation, provider of the XML-based data management arena, reports CMS Wire.

As organisations become more reliant on XML for information storage and data transfer, these same organisations will look to their incumbent enterprise content management vendors for help.

The inclusion of X-Hive's XML-based data management capabilities within the Documentum infrastructure can only help to improve the Web content management functionality of Documentum - an area where it has traditionally struggled.
