Gauteng premier Mbhazima Shilowa is on an official visit to India to strengthen economic ties with strategic international partners in the region - including ICT companies.
The trip is in line with a promise made by the premier during the opening of legislature earlier this year that he would seek business agreements in Africa, Brazil and India.
He was accompanied to India by Paul Mashatile, MEC for finance; Charles Jonker, CEO of the Gauteng Economic Development Agency (GEDA); Mogopodi Mokoena, director-general for the Gauteng Provincial Government; and Moss Ngoasheng, chairman of GEDA.
Shilowa is holding discussions with the state of Karnataka for possible co-operation in several sectors including e-governance, ICT, education, healthcare and infrastructure development.
He will also attend the International Trade Fair to increase trade relations between Gauteng and India, promote Gauteng and SA as an investment opportunity, and seek increased markets for Gauteng and South African products in India.
The one-week visit ends on 20 November.
