Shoden Data Systems appointed Fujitsu-Siemens Computers reseller, wins deal at Liberty Group

Johannesburg, 16 Apr 2003

Having been appointed as a reseller for Fujitsu Siemens Computers, Shoden Data Systems has installed a high-end server solution at the Liberty Group.

The deal, which saw the first local installation of a Fujitsu Siemens Computers PRIMEPOWER 2000 server, aims at dramatically reducing total cost of ownership (TCO) in the Liberty Group's information technology environment.

Fanie van Rensburg, MD of Shoden Data Systems, explains: "By consolidating the server footprint with a more powerful option than the previous infrastructure, the Liberty Group was able to reduce the total amount of processors used - thereby limiting operational costs in terms of licence fees."

Liberty Group's Hamid Essop, divisional director Group Information Technology Operations, adds: "Having already installed several Hitachi storage systems through Shoden Data Systems, the next logical step was to address the cost/performance issue in our applications environment. The Fujitsu Siemens Computers solution is fully compatible with our existing infrastructure and has delivered exactly what we wanted in this process."

"This is a breakthrough into the South African marketplace for our PRIMEPOWER server range," says Mark Wilson, MD of Fujitsu Siemens Computers. "The PRIMEPOWER has established a reputation for best-in-class performance in Europe and through Shoden is starting to make inroads into the South African market."

The PRIMEPOWER 2000 is a high-end server with a capacity of 128 processors and symmetrical multi-processing (SMP). The PRIMEPOWER 2000 is an ideal platform for switching from distributed server environments to integrated server environments. Scaleable up to 128 SPARC64 processors, the PRIMEPOWER 2000 is also designed for processing large enterprise and scientific applications.
