South African video-on-demand (VOD) service ShowMax will release an app for the Apple TV.
"Our product team took delivery of their development unit [Apple TV] a month ago and we're seriously impressed. The new user interface and the remote are exquisite," says Mike Raath, ShowMax CTO.
At the launch of the TV in September, Apple CEO Tim Cook said the company believed the future of TV is apps.
The new TV will have its own operating system and run on an app store. ShowMax will let developers create new software for Apple TV, including video games.
Raath says the ShowMax app will be available within the next few months. He said the company is also working on support for other non-Apple platforms.
The Apple TV will go on sale this month through authorised Apple distributors. Prices start at R2 499 for 32GB.
