A multimillion-rand converged voice and data wireless solution has been implemented at Sun International`s new Sibaya Casino and Entertainment Kingdom in KwaZulu-Natal.
BCT Global, a wireless networking and mobile computing systems integrator, implemented the solution, which is supported by technical service level agreements and on-site training and consultancy.
The converged wireless infrastructure at Sibaya is designed to benefit users of high-bandwidth applications and services, and also supports IP telephony, wireless IP telephony, and streaming video and multimedia.
Users can roam unfettered through designated areas within the hotel facilities and properties. Using handheld computers, telephony appliances and wireless LANs provide real-time access to critical information when and where it is needed.
"Hotel associates and guests can now access a wide range of information, applications and computing resources, without worrying about connectivity," says Rajen Naidoo, technology director at BCT Global.
"These technologies are enabling a wide range of hospitality applications including administration and housekeeping, guest services, food services, casino and gaming operations, as well as convention centre and meeting room services."
He says BCT likes to say it specialises in fire prevention, rather than fire fighting.
"The customer`s data and voice network is an essential utility that simply cannot be subject to service disruption, and in our experience, converged wireless data and IP telephony solutions based on third-generation wireless security switches have the rock-solid reliability and depth of security layers to protect mission-critical corporate data and voice."
He says the BCT solution is designed to allow the entire campus to deliver voice, data and wireless technologies seamlessly, and in addition to mobile connectivity, it provides comprehensive security to protect the network and users, advanced quality of service for voice and centralised management.
"True integration of voice and data services increases productivity and overall effectiveness, while the development of innovative multimedia applications will create demands for new services from guests and new revenue opportunities for the hotel," says a Sun International spokesman.
"By providing mobile workers with anytime, anywhere access to information via instant voice and data communications throughout the hotel, we will not only be able to be more competitive, productive and customer-centric, but we will be able to do so at a reduced total cost of ownership."
