Siemens Communications has been bestowed with the 2005 Frost & Sullivan Technology Leadership Award in the area of Internet protocol (IP) technologies.
Dr Jan Mrosik, recently appointed CEO of Siemens Communications in South Africa, says that in particular, the Award recognises Siemens Communications' overall leadership in advancing the use of Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) through the design and development of a wide range of innovative SIP-enabled devices for both enterprises and service providers.
"In its efforts to unify and synchronise communication across the globe, Siemens Communications has focused on innovating products that offer a unified user experience by means of a unified network and application domain," he says.
While a unified user experience offers users convenient access and effective control over information without being constrained by a particular device, a unified network and applications domain provides users with the ability to use services and applications seamlessly, regardless of the underlying network.
"Siemens Communications' research and innovation in SIP enabled applications and devices forms a key component of its 'LifeWorks' philosophy that aims to enhance business and personal communications through supporting the highest level of seamless interaction across domains, irrespective of the carrier," explains Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst V.R. The company's diverse SIP product line ranges from the HiPath and optiPoint family of products to optiClient that has enabled enterprises to migrate effectively to SIP capability. Being software (module) based, these devices offer great flexibility as they can be installed on the hardware of choice. Moreover, Siemens Communications' standards-based devices have underlined their appeal to clients using or interested in using multi-vendor products.
"Plans to incorporate SIP capability across a few individual products in the HiPath and optiPoint family that currently do not offer SIP capability by early 2005 are set to reinforce Siemens Communications' position as a leading, globally recognised integrated communications company," says Mrosik.
At the same time, the company's keen understanding of emerging trends has underpinned its continued product improvements. For instance, swiftly responding to the increased demand and high potential for emergency services (ES), Siemens Communications is incorporating the latest ES-communications capabilities to its product portfolio.
