Siemens has announced that its Information and Communications Group is in the process of rolling out a R25 million trading solution for Standard Bank's Standard Corporate and Merchant Bank division.
Siemens says the deal is the largest its local enterprise unit has ever signed and adds to a recent list of big contracts which includes, on the telecommunications side of the company's business, the roll-out of networks for Cell C and Eskom Enterprises.
The completed system, based on Siemens' HiPath products, will include streaming video to the desktop's of traders allowing them to access both video conferencing and broadcast streams. It also features cordless telephony and unified messaging. A video solution is to allow streaming between local offies and the Standard trading desk in London.
The system is similar to one being installed for the German Dresdner Bank.
Siemens says the system will allow traders better access to the wide range of information sources they rely on.
The first phase of the roll-out is underway in Johannesburg and Pretoria, and the focus is then to shift to Durban and Cape Town. More than 200 dealers will eventually be served by the system.
"We are confident the deal will lead to many other significant business opportunities for us in the region in the near future," says Vincent Scholtz, recently appointed MD of the Enterprise Solutions division at Siemens.
