Sierra Wireless: Data on the EDGE

By Cameo Corporate Communications

Leaf Wireless today announced the availability of the Sierra Wireless AirCard 775 for mobile connection to EDGE/GPRS/GSM.

The AirCard 775 fits into a standard PC card slot and immediately adds high-speed data at up to three times GPRS rates (typical average 100-130kbps, bursts up to 220kbps), with a fall-back to GPRS where EDGE is not yet available, plus it supports voice calls with an optional headset, and SMS.

Quinton Leigh, Managing Director of Leaf Wireless, states: "Mobile professionals all over the world rely on Sierra Wireless AirCard products to help them efficiently manage their workload and remain accessible to clients and colleagues while away from the office. MTN`s roll-out of EDGE coupled with their dramatic reduction in data costs mean mobile professionals in SA can start to enjoy the productivity benefits of mobile connectivity at very attractive rates."

MTN`s Ashraf Paruk, GM of Product and Innovation, said: "MTN aims to take broadband to everyone in SA. Our research has shown that cost was a barrier to uptake."

On the new rates, the maximum cost for 1MB is R2: typically that will get you a dozen office documents, or a couple of hundred e-mails (without attachments), or 20 or so Web pages.

Leigh added: "The AirCard 775 installs in minutes, and with a couple of settings to configure the connection and mail delivery in place, brings you immediate access to your e-mail and high-speed connection to your office network. Easy setup, blazing performance and invisible, hassle-free operation make this a killer application which we couldn`t be launching at a better time."

A laptop equipped with an AirCard 775 becomes a satellite office with both voice and data connections, with the cellular network`s extensive reach, inherent security and simplicity of operation delivering real-time, any time, anywhere operation.

The AirCard 775 is distributed and supported exclusively by Leaf Wireless.
