With shrink-wrapped commodities no longer needing a push to turn profits, many software corporations are seeing the value in moving into the services business. Attachmate South Africa is no exception and has announced its framework for delivering IT solutions faster through a newly-established Consulting Services division.
"This is a strategic move for Attachmate and definitely a strong future focus. Our Consulting Services will concentrate on e-business, host access and application integration solution consulting," says Kevin Wilmot, director, Centres of Excellence at Attachmate Corporation.
"The Internet is creating a demand for e-business applications, but the question often remains of how to get to back-end data for competent enterprise integration with Web-based technologies."
Many corporations are finding that programmers who originally coded their legacy applications are no longer around. How do these companies quickly and securely access and distribute host data to their end users in the new Internet economy?
"It`s not only about providing connectivity, but about a move to application management and building a more substantial model for mainframe access," says Wilmot.
"Our consultants understand the business infrastructure, programming languages and legacy environment. They are software engineers skilled in the latest tools, OSs and platforms."
The Internet is driving time to market up by more than just a notch or two, and corporations have to move faster if they want to stay ahead.
"Communicating effectively with back-end data, and integrating this vital information into new client technologies is what our consulting services aims to accomplish," Wilmot concludes.
