Siltek Telecoms announces local availability of unity connection

By Tin Can Communications
Johannesburg, 14 Jun 2000

Specialist telecommunications distributor Siltek Telecoms, has announced the local availability of Unity Connection, the latest offering from the global provider of unified messaging and computer software solutions Active . Unity Connection is the most recent contribution to the popular Unity family of NT-based communications solutions.

"Unity Connection offers powerful, cost-effective messaging features that support both circuit and IP telephone systems," says Michael Aitken MD of Siltek Telecoms, local distributor of Active Voice products. He adds that Unity is aimed specifically at meeting the needs of small-to-medium- sized enterprises (SME's), as well as telecommunications resellers and value-added resellers (VARs) world-wide.

Built on proven Unity technology, Unity Connection delivers voice messaging, an automated attendant, fax notification and delivery as well as advanced Web-based control of schedules, greetings and system administration.

Aitken goes on to explain that Unity connection is ideal for organisations that need a feature rich messaging solution that is customised to meet their unique requirements. "As a member of the Unity family of convergence-ready solutions, Unity Connection provides investment protection by working with virtually all telephone systems, including the emerging IP telephone systems."

He feels that as businesses today want their employees to be responsive to customers and co-workers, Unity Connection is ideal as it delivers voice messaging, an automated attendant, and fax notification and delivery, as well as advanced Web-based control for schedules, greetings and system administration.

Unity Connection was specifically designed for easy instalment and support, that according to Aitken, allows it to be marketed with minimal investment in staffing and training.

"Moreover, Unity Connection also offers a clear migration path to Unity Enterprise, making it easy to use the unified messaging server" adds Aitken. "These value-added features and migration options provide the investment and growth protection businesses need to remain competitive. In addition, Unity Connection is an excellent choice for telecommunications resellers and data VARs who offer messaging solutions for small and medium sized customers," he says.

Furthermore, Unity Connection users can easily manage voice and fax messages via telephone as well as control greetings and schedules from the Internet. In addition, it is enhanced to include visual messaging, which will enable users to control voice and fax messages over a desktop PC. Additionally, Unity Connection works with both types of telephone systems, providing organisations with significant investment protection. Unity Connection works with both types of telephone systems simultaneously, thus establishing a flexible smooth and cost-effective transition as organisations migrate to IP telephony.

The solution has been developed for resellers who want to offer advanced NT-based messaging for a wide array of telephone systems without having an MCSE-certified technician on staff. Active Voice provides marketing, training and support programs to enable qualified resellers to meet the needs of their computer telephony customers. Unity Connection offers a clear migration path for users of Active Voice's popular Repartee voice messaging product family. Unity Connection scales from 4 to 16 ports of voice messaging and 1 to 4 ports of fax, with a maximum size of 16 ports combined voice and fax ports.

Further breaking down the barriers of communications and emerging technologies, Unity Connection supports more than 96 percent of all traditional telephone systems and the new Internet Protocol (IP) telephone systems, providing organisations with significant investment protection. "This," concludes Aitken, "gives communication control back to knowledge workers so that small to medium sized enterprises are able to offer the best possible customer service."
