Siltek Telecoms signs distribution agreement with Aculab

By Tin Can Communications
Johannesburg, 09 Aug 2000

Siltek Telecoms has signed an agreement with UK-based Aculab to distribute its computer product portfolio.

Michael Aitken, managing director of Siltek Telecoms, explains how the agreement encompasses the entire Aculab range including the Prosody DSP resource card, access cards, and the Aculab MC3 card.

"Aculab is a global designer and manufacturer of computer telephony solutions and components. The partnership presents the ideal opportunity to introduce its range of products to the local market," says Aitken.

Chris Gravett, sales and marketing director at Aculab expressed his delight on the agreement. 'Siltek Telecoms are the leader in IT distribution in sub Saharan Africa, by partnering with Siltek we can assure our customers of the quality of service and support they come to expect with Aculab's high quality products".

Products in the Aculab range include the Prosody DSP resource card, which explains Aitken, provides developers with high-density processing, for basic speech, conferencing, TTS, ASR and fax, in an extremely compact and flexible form. A single Prosody card, occupying a single slot, can deliver 240 channels of DSP processing. Prosody is available in ISA, PCI and cPCI card formats. Both PCI and cPCI cards can provide up to 120 E1/T1 network access links.

Key benefits of Aculab's digital network access card products stem from the breadth of product and extensive worldwide protocol coverage. The Aculab generic API has been evolved consistently across all of the product line making it easier for applications to be migrated to both different protocols and newer hardware. The application doesn't even need to know which protocol is actually running on the access card, to assist portability. The products have been designed to offer either digital access alone, or in many cases combined with speech resources. Aculab's VoIP gateway is the latest addition to the range.

Aculab has also developed an MC3 card to help developers and integrators address the demand for a quality CT product based in a single PC chassis, but with a larger capacity system. MC3 is a standard, developed within the MVIP community, using the bit -carrying capacity of ATM without the associated overheads.
