Sintrex wins the DTI Technology Award

Cape Town, 18 Oct 2013

Sintrex was nominated for a DTI technology award in the medium companies' category. This week we found out that out of 100 companies reviewed, we made the finals.

Our technology was on display at the DTI Technology Awards Exhibition most of the week for all to see among approximately 30 other finalists. A big eye opener for me, personally, was to see the high level of innovations and technology on display.

We have unbelievable minds at work in the technology sector in SA and we were already proud just to be recognised as a contributor among these genius innovators.

In the speeches, the DTI explained its deliberation process and the important factors that they take into account, namely:

* The use of technology to create employment (directly and indirectly).
* The companies' track record and ability to create revenue from the technology.
* BEE compliance.
* Finances.
* Sales into the South African market and specifically who has adopted our technology for their business benefit.
* And then last, but definitely not least, company staff. All aspects of staff, related to the departmental structures that look after all these important criteria and that make the magic happen, are considered.

The awards dinner was attend by the who's who of the technology world in SA, including public sector ministers, DGs and investors. Noticeable too was the amount of press and TV cameras that followed these VIPs.

We shared a table with fellow finalists, some local Durban public service seniors and prominent business folk. When our category was announced we were excited to see an introductory Sintrex video and also to see the competition's businesses in a little more detail.

We won... We actually won.... Flashing lights, big smiles, TV cameras... It was all very overwhelming. We accepted the award on behalf of Sintrex and walked off stage with our chests swollen with pride.

The evening progressed into a few interviews, photographs, many handshakes and ended with a few celebratory drinks.

To all the staff at Sintrex, you are phenomenal! Keep it up!
