SIP deployments benefit security firms
The rise of SIP trunking not only has the potential to create savings for enterprises, but could be a boon for VOIP security firms as well, reports Fierce VOIP.
As enterprises rapidly move to all-IP telecommunications networks for cost savings, some may not realise the security issues at stake.
"Not all operators or enterprises have been slow to address security," said Heavy Reading analyst Jim Hodges. "But given IP and SIP are susceptible to security breaches, it is an increased area of focus for all users."
VOIP comparison Web site unveiled
A new comparison Web site has been introduced to help users choose VOIP technology, providing service ratings and customer reviews, states ihotdesk.
ConsumerVoIPCompare.com will evaluate products based on reliability, sound quality, value, features and service.
"No single provider is right for every customer. Most VOIP providers have their strengths and weaknesses. All we do is condense the information floating around about each provider and present it in an easy-to-navigate format," says the Web site.
RGD to offer VOIP service
Jamaica's Registrar Generals Department (RGD) will offer a VOIP service by year-end in the hope of alleviating the difficulty customers face in accessing the agency by telephone, says Jamaica Observer.
RGD's CEO Dr Patricia Holness says the agency, which has been without its main lines since a storm in September 2007, received confirmation from the National Contracts Committee last week that it had approved the application and that the system should be in by the end of the year.
In the meantime, the agency had improved its e-mail service to counteract the problem with a turnaround time of 24 hours. She said the agency processes, on average, 56 000 e-mails weekly.
