SITA ERP Seminar: ERP Wisdom in Government

Representatives of the IT industry as well as top Government IT officials attended a Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Seminar hosted by the State Information Technology Agency (SITA) on 31 August 2000 at its Head Office in Erasmuskloof, Pretoria.

SITA, in its position as IT provider and support function to a number of State departments, has the responsibility to inform its clients of emerging IT trends, including that of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP).

The Seminar with the theme: ERP Wisdom in Government was attended by representatives from the IT industry as well as Government IT officials.

The purpose of the Seminar benefited attendees by providing them with the opportunity to gain a common point of view on what ERP solutions entail and what it could mean to Government. It also explained what SITA can offer insofar as moving towards one solution for the whole of Government with respect to ERP.

SITA introduced local and international speakers to offer an unbiased view on the pros and cons of pursuing the acquisition of an ERP solution for Government.

  • Mr Mike Fullerton: Director: Customer Competency at Eskom

  • Professor Gerrie Roodt: Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Konica Business Systems Southern Africa, Director of CSIPER Consulting (ERP implementation consultancy)

  • Mr Darnee A Phipps: Vice President & Research Director, Internet and Application Technologies: Gartner Group Research & Advisory Services

  • Motivational Speaker Dr Kelvin Kemm: Director: STRATEK (Technology Strategy Consultants)

By focusing on the ERP solution and informing its clients on its value, SITA accentuated its ability to deliver solutions to its clients by using the international IT/IS industry as partners.
