SITA exec to face criminal charges

The State IT Agency (SITA) is preparing to lay criminal charges against at least one senior executive, as internal investigations near completion into allegations of corruption levelled against three suspended high-level employees.

In August, the agency suspended Ramabele Magoma Nthite, shared services executive; Moses Mthimunye, strategic services chief; and Ranti Mahlabana, GM for human resource services; on suspicion of corruption and colluding with suppliers.

Prior to the suspension, Nthite and Mthimunye formed part of Baloyi's “tripartite acting CEO team”.

The state-owned entity's corruption probe forms part of the turnaround framework approved by Parliament, in March. This followed public service and administration minister Richard Baloyi's commitment to root out corruption at all levels of the organisation. Soon after, Baloyi reconstituted the board and charged the new team of directors with turning the troubled agency around.

SITA's acting-CEO, Nontobeko Ntsinde, yesterday confirmed that criminal charges are to be laid against one of the three. Ntsinde says the agency will reveal the details of which executive it is, once the charges have been served.

The agency expects to appoint forensic investigation consultants by the end of the month to highlight and address any gaps the internal investigations may have missed.

The consultants will finalise all formal documentation for the disciplinary enquiries. These will take place towards the end of January or beginning of February, according to Ntsinde.
